Celebrate June with three events at one day! On the morning of 7 June (starting at 11:00), we invite you to spend the morning with the UL DA "Dancītis" and the UL Ceramics Studio "Vāpe" at the Open-Air Museum, where the annual "Fair 2025" of amateur artists and folk applied arts will take place. At 16:00 Jānis Puriņš, artistic director and conductor of the UL Wind Orchestra (LUPO), will celebrate his birthday. He is inviting everyone to the free anniversary concert at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music together with LUPO, learn more here. At 19:00, the UL Mixed Choir "Aura" will rock the hills of Talsi in the concert "Tiguļkalns" (special guest - Maestro Raimonds Pauls) - also a free concert.
8 June
At 14:00 the women's choir "Balta" will give a concert at Smiltene Lutheran Church, performing Rihards Zaļupe's "Mana lūgsna" - a soulful programme in beautiful acoustics. The concert will also feature soloists Ilona Bagele, Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča, Rihards Zaļupe, Ivars Brīnums and Chin-Yun Yu. More info here.
11 June
The DeCoro Chamber Choir of the University of Latvia will accompany a conference (17:00 at the Latvian Occupation Museum) dedicated to the creative legacy of composer Lūcija Garūta with musical performances. Two presentations, including one by Kristiana Vaickovska, conductor of DeCoro, will shed light on the composer's role in Latvian culture. Learn more here.
12 June
At 18:00, the UL Mixed Choir “Dziesmuvara” together with DJ Krankenwagen will open a never-before-seen event - the untamed culture and art festival “Ecosystemic” in Mežaparks. It consists of different “organisms”, alternative music from nine countries, in which a wide range of cross-genre cultural phenomena will flourish. More information on the event's facebook page.
At the same time, the Juventus Mixed Choir will represent Latvia at the prestigious Tampere Vocal Music Festival in Finland, taking part in the Chorus Review competition, where Europe's strongest choirs come together.
13 June
At 19:00 UL dance ensemble “Dancis” will perform at VEF Culture Palace in the concert “Rotājies, Rotaļa”. VEF Culture Palace folk dance ensemble “Rotaļa” have invited their closest friends - 8 dance ensembles from Riga, Sigulda and Jelgava. All the participants of the concert form the most active driving force of Latvian stage folk dance, regularly surprising the audience with new choreographies, as well as strengthening traditions. 19 June
At 18:00 The UL Mixed Choir “Aura” and ‘Madrigal’, a guest choir from Germany, will join their forces in a concert “From Pragsna to līgotne”. The concert will take place in the St. Peter's Church, and will feature sacred and folk music in the summer mood.
20 June
At 17:00 Ieva Jurga, representative of the University of Latvia Culture Centre, together with Jānis Daugavietis, researcher at the LFMI of UL, and Linards Kalniņš, lecturer at the JVLMA, data scientist, will lead a discussion “How to grow up without Song Festival II” at the “LAMPA” talk festival in Cēsis (in Latvian).
15-29 June
The UL Folklore Group “Dandari” will perform at various events during the International Folklore Festival “Baltica”.
On 15 June at 13:00 “Dandari” will hold a masterclass in Koknese - an opportunity for everyone to learn traditional Latvian games from the masters themselves.
On the same day at 16:00 “Dandari” will visit Suntaži for the 9th Ieviņa ermonik players' gathering, where Latvian melodies and games will be performed.
On 19 June at 14:00, the folklore group “Dandari” will celebrate Jāņi at the Gaiļezers Day Centre - joy and a sense of celebration is brought to the places that need it most.
On 21 June at 21:00 “Dandari” will perform at the Solstice event in the ruins of Ērģemes Castle. Sunset, fire, music and the magic of a real summer night.
On 26 June at 18:00, the Baltic Evening at the Daile House of Music will bring together the traditions of the three Baltic States - music, dance and cultural unity.
On 27 June at 17:00, Dandari will take part in a festive procession and at 19:00 - the opening concert in Riga.
On 28 June, “Dandari” will take part in the concert “Atskan mana valodiņa”, which will take place in Inčukalns at 13:40 and in Turaida at 18:00. The concert will honour the Latvian language and culture that runs through generations.
On 29 June at 15:00 “Dandari” will concULde the June concert series with a magnificent march in Daugavpils - a journey of Latvian culture with a sense of community and light.
