The University of Latvia mixed choir Dziesmuvara was founded in 1925. Today, the choir brings together members who highly value Latvian choral singing traditions and, at the same time, strive for creative expression, seeking new musical solutions and artistic forms.
In addition to its classical repertoire, the choir also implements creative projects and collaborations that expand the boundaries of choral singing and promote its development in the context of contemporary culture. Examples include the environmental object "Tava Vara" (2021), the sensory performance "Uz Rietumiem" (2025), and participation in the experimental music festival "Skaņu mežs" (2025). The choir has gained both national and international recognition by participating in various festivals and competitions.
Dziesmuvaru is made up of Latvian choral music enthusiasts who have found other equally bold and passionate like-minded people to spend their free time together, both honing the art of choral singing and creating celebrations for themselves and others.
Artistic director Nora Žeigure, conductor Oskars Freimanis, vocal teacher Edgars Auniņš.
