In Latvia, Midsummer is a special celebration of the shortest night of the year—homes are decorated with wreaths of leaves, beer and special Midsummer cheese are served, and people sing Midsummer songs, dance, and wait for the sunrise around bonfires all night long. To prepare for these splendid celebrations, the Herb Market is traditionally held beforehand in the heart of Old Riga, on Doma Square—a feast for the eyes
with magnificent bouquets and garlands of flowers, and housewives from all regions of Latvia offering the most delicious cheeses. Lively Midsummer celebrations and bustling trade all day long!

As part of the GAUDEAMUS festival in 2026, the Midsummer market will be complemented by a special folk music and dance program featuring performers from all three Baltic countries. The performances in the very heart of Riga will draw thousands of city guests and festival-goers, creating an authentic Midsummer atmosphere enhanced by the scent of flowers and a responsive audience.

The event will be documented through audio, audiovisual, and photographic recordings.
