At Dome Square, during the traditional Midsummer Market (Zāļu tirgus), audiences enjoyed a vibrant programme of folk music and dance featuring ensembles from all three Baltic countries. Festival guests and Riga residents alike were treated to a diverse range of performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Baltic nations and the creative energy of their students.

Festival’s opening concert was held in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia, celebrating the chief conductors, chief dance leaders, and participants of “Gaudeamus”. Latvian choirs and the Symphony Orchestra of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music performed together in a tribute to unity, the spirit of student life, and the power of song, which has connected the Baltic nations for 70 years.

First day concluded with the folk dance ensemble concert “On the Same Path” at Dailes Theatre. The performance stood as a powerful expression of unity among Baltic student dance groups, taking audiences on a colourful journey through tradition, youthful energy, and the cultural heritage shared by our nations.

About the Festival
The “Gaudeamus" tradition began in 1956 in Tartu, and since then the festival has been held 19 times across the Baltic States. It is an important part of Baltic cultural and academic identity, promoting the preservation of traditions and encouraging young people’s participation in folk culture.
The festival plays a significant role in safeguarding the unique Song and Dance Festival tradition and strengthening unity among the Baltic States. The event is held alternately in each of the Baltic countries.
The festival is organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia in cooperation with the University of Latvia and the Riga City Municipality.
